We love to travel and we love to spend time with friends. When I was on maternity leave with Thomas we took trips to St.Thomas, VI, New Jersey and Virginia. So I felt it was only natural to continue the trend so I planned a girls weekend with Zoe. Charlottesville, VA is one of our most favorite places in the world. Tremain and I went to The University of Virginia together so it holds a special place in our hearts. I lived in Charlottesville for 12yrs before heading back to Toronto to start a family.
We have many dear friends in Cvllle which makes travel logistics pretty easy. We flew direct from YYZ to DCA, hopped in our rental car and drove 2hrs and voila! we were in heaven. That’s sounds a lot more magical than it was. Zoe is a fantastic flyer, however, she’s a less than stellar carseat traveller. Our 2hr drive to Cville was a bit of shit show, a perfect storm of DC traffic, a ton of construction and a 10 month old that does NOT want to be restrained a second longer. I have never been so happy to see a glass of wine!
The weekend was great, we set up shop with a family I used to nanny for when I was in college. This was perfect, we had two rooms, our own bath and fantastic company. We stopped by two of my old workplaces and everyone was immediately smitten with Zoe. She definitely knows how to turn on the charm. Friday night a couple of friends stopped by where Zoe and I were staying with a couple bottles of wine and a full on cheese spread… these are GOOD friends 🙂 I put Zoe to bed and we sat on the porch sipping wine, eating cheese and catching up, it was the most perfect Virginia night. Saturday we spent wandering The Lawn, taking selfless, stocking up on UVA apparel and catching up with my second family at their house in Keswick. They recently acquired my dream car, I may forego my kids college tuition to get this car. (no joking). The weather was great, sunny and 70. I opted to skip the Football game and tailgating in lieu of keeping Zoe on her schedule. It was the BEST decision because it dipped into the 40’s and I was more than happy watching the game cozied up on the couch.
We wrapped up our weekend with breakfast at Bodos (the most amazing bagel place on earth) and hanging out with my best friend Mary-Mac in DC. It was a whirlwind 4 days, but well worth it. Time with good friends is so so good for the soul.
Showing off my girl wasn’t so bad either.
